Karat grade = parts of pure gold out of 24. Multiply total weight × purity fraction to get pure gold weight. Multiply that by the live spot price per gram to estimate melt value.

How do I calculate pure gold content?
Multiply the total weight by the karat purity fraction. An 18K ring weighing 5 g contains 5 × 0.75 = 3.75 g of pure gold.
What is troy ounce vs. gram?
Gold spot prices are traditionally quoted in troy ounces. One troy ounce (oz t) equals 31.1035 grams.
Is melt value the same as retail value?
No. Melt value is only the raw gold content at spot price. Retail jewellery also includes craftsmanship, design, brand, and dealer margin — often 2–5× the melt value.
Which karat is best value for money?
18K offers the best balance of gold purity (75%) and durability. 14K is more affordable and extremely common in the US. 24K is the purest but too soft for most jewellery.
