How do I calculate pure gold content?
Multiply the total weight by the karat purity fraction. An 18K ring weighing 5 g contains 5 × 0.75 = 3.75 g of pure gold.
What is troy ounce vs. gram?
Gold spot prices are traditionally quoted in troy ounces. One troy ounce (oz t) equals 31.1035 grams.
Is melt value the same as retail value?
No. Melt value is only the raw gold content at spot price. Retail jewellery also includes craftsmanship, design, brand, and dealer margin — often 2–5× the melt value.
Which karat is best value for money?
